ISO standards for IT, SaaS and software companies
Software and IT service providers usually meet ISO standards through customer security questionnaires, vendor risk reviews and procurement checklists. Enterprise buyers want to know how access is controlled, how incidents are handled and who is responsible for what in the cloud. Management-system standards give a structured, auditable way to answer those questions once instead of many times.

Why organizations in this sector ask
Security questionnaires
Customers send long vendor security questionnaires, sometimes asking for a SOC-style report or an ISO/IEC 27001 certificate. A single audited management system can cut repeated explanations.
Cloud shared responsibility
Hosting on a public cloud does not remove your duty to configure access, logging, backup and encryption properly. A management system makes it clear which controls are yours.
Service reliability and data protection
Uptime commitments, change management and personal data handling are recurring topics in customer contracts.
Standards to look at first
Common challenges
- Customer questionnaires use different wording, so answers are rewritten every time.
- Access rights accumulate over time, and leavers or role changes are not always reflected.
- Infrastructure is changed quickly and the change record does not keep up.
- Teams assume the cloud provider handles security that the customer is in fact responsible for.
- Third-party tools and sub-processors are adopted without a supplier review.
Evidence you may be asked to show
- An information security risk assessment and a statement of applicability.
- Access control reviews, joiner-and-leaver records and multi-factor authentication settings.
- Change, backup and restore test records.
- Incident logs showing how events were handled and reviewed.
- Supplier and sub-processor assessments, and security awareness training records.
Questions an auditor might ask
- What is in the scope of your management system, and which systems or teams are excluded?
- Which security responsibilities stay with you when you host on a public cloud?
- When did you last test restoring from backup, and what did you learn?
- How do you decide who gets production access, and how often is it reviewed?
- Walk me through your last security incident from detection to lessons learned.
What a certification scope can look like
- Example: Design, development and hosting of a cloud-based software-as-a-service platform for business customers.
- Example: Provision of managed IT support and infrastructure services.
- Example: Custom software development and maintenance for client organizations.
- Example: Operation of a customer-facing online service, including its supporting infrastructure.
