Questions and answers

Direct answers to what organizations ask most. For anything specific to your scope, the certification body has the final word.

The process

How does ISO certification work?
You choose a standard, build or tidy your management system, and an independent certification body audits it in two stages. If the audit shows the requirements are met, the body decides on certification and issues a certificate. The certificate is then kept valid through surveillance audits.
Does ISO issue the certificate?
No. ISO writes the standards but does not audit organizations or issue certificates. Independent certification bodies do that. This is why the correct wording is “certified to ISO 9001”, not “ISO certified”.
What happens in a certification audit?
An auditor from the certification body meets your people, looks at records and watches work being done, then reports findings. A first audit has two stages: Stage 1 checks readiness and Stage 2 checks that the system works in practice.
What happens after the certificate is issued?
The certificate stays valid through surveillance audits, usually held at intervals during its validity period, and is renewed by a recertification audit. The exact schedule is set by the certification body.
What is a nonconformity and does it mean I fail?
A nonconformity is a requirement that is not fully met. You normally respond with a correction and a corrective action. Minor ones are common. Major ones are more serious and may need to be closed before certification can be granted. The certification body decides.
Does ISO certification cover every office and branch?
Only the sites and activities listed in the certificate scope. Some sites can be outside it. Always read the scope on a certificate to see what it covers.

Cost

How much does ISO certification cost?
It depends on your standard, number of people, number of sites, complexity and the certification body, so we do not publish prices. Only a certification body can give a quote in writing after reviewing your scope. Our cost page explains the factors.
Why do quotes for the same standard differ so much?
Quotes may assume different scopes, audit days, numbers of sites or inclusions such as surveillance audits. Compare them on the same basis before comparing figures, and ask what is excluded.
Does MIYAAR CONNECT charge for requesting a quote?
We do not charge you to submit an inquiry. Any fees for audit and certification are set by the independent certification body and quoted by it directly.

Timing

How long does ISO certification take?
There is no fixed time that fits every organization. It depends on how ready your system is, your size and scope, and the certification body's availability. Be cautious of anyone promising certification in a set number of days.
How often does an ISO certificate need renewing?
A certificate is valid for a defined period set by the certification body, with surveillance audits in between. Before it ends, a recertification audit is needed to renew it. Check your own certificate for its dates.
Do I need to change my certificate when a new edition is published?
Usually yes, within arrangements set by your certification body and accreditation rules. ISO 9001:2026 was published on 16 September 2026 and replaces the 2015 edition. Ask your certification body what applies to you and by when.

Accreditation

Does the certification body need to be accredited?
Not always, but accreditation is an independent check that a body is competent for a given scope, and some buyers and tenders require it. Ask your buyer what they accept and check the body's accreditation for your standard and sector.
What is the difference between certification and accreditation?
Certification is an audit of an organization's management system against a standard, done by a certification body. Accreditation is the independent assessment of the certification body itself, done by an accreditation body.
Is MIYAAR CONNECT an accredited certification body?
No. MIYAAR CONNECT does not audit, certify or accredit. We are an independent platform that helps you understand standards and connects inquiries with independent certification bodies.

Who can get certified

How many employees do I need for ISO certification?
There is no minimum number. Small organizations, including very small ones, can be certified. The number of people affects the audit effort, not whether you are eligible.
Do I need a consultant to get certified?
No. Consultants can help some organizations build their system, but they are not required. The certification body must stay independent of any consultant who helps you, and a consultant cannot guarantee the result.
Is ISO certification mandatory in Iraq?
As a general rule, no, but some buyers, tenders or regulators may ask for it. We do not state specific legal requirements. Check with the buyer, the regulator or the tender document.
Can ISO certification guarantee I win a tender?
No. A certificate may be one of the requirements, but it does not guarantee tender acceptance or contract awards. Read the tender document to see what is asked.
